Meet Matt.

Matt fell in love with biking early — first riding to school and friends’ houses in Grundy Center — but his passion really flourished in adulthood. After rediscovering cycling in his mid-20s, it quickly became a healthy obsession that keeps growing year after year. Today, biking is how Matt explores and connects with his community. He loves how the world looks different from the saddle and how a bike can lead you to places you’d never otherwise go.

Matt embraces big adventures — including a successful summit of Haleakalā in Maui, the third hardest bike climb in the U.S. His heart remains close to home, though, and he looks forward to helping more riders discover the hidden gems, challenges, and joy that biking in the Iowa City area has to offer.

Favorite place to ride in Bike Iowa City

Sugar Bottom Road and some of the nearby gravel roads between North Liberty and Solon. For hill climbs, Brown Deer Road or Camp Cardinal Road.

Favorite cycling event in Bike Iowa City

The Courage Ride which is a fundraiser for Sarcoma Research at the University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. I also enjoy the Iowa Gravel Series Kalona Horseshoe event.

You're ready for some grub after a ride. Where will we find you?

If my wife and I are taking an afternoon off, usually Red’s Alehouse. If I’m with a former co-worker, it’s almost a guarantee we end at George’s Buffet.
