Meet Jenny.

Hey there! I’m Jenny. I have an editorial background and work as a Senior Managing Editor on a science journal. It involves problem solving, scheduling, and interacting with different personalities. I’m also the author of five books of poetry, a mom to three kids, and a rock climber. I first started riding my bike when I was a little girl and it was a way for me to get away from my four older brothers. It was the first taste of freedom for me: as long as I stayed on the sidewalk I could stay out riding around until it got dark.

There’s so much to love about Bike Iowa City. My favorite riding is on my mountain bike on dirt, but I also enjoy commuting, riding around the city with my kids, and I’ve tried more gravel riding lately! Biking is a great way to stay healthy and meet new friends. The Iowa Mountain Bike Festival — which took place the last two Octobers at Coralville Creekside park, was tons of fun and more connecting trails were recently built there. I encourage everyone to go check those out!

Favorite place to ride in Bike Iowa City

At the moment my favorite set of trails to ride is at Coralville Creekside ballpark. The green, blue, and black trails there are all awesome and were built with love and grit by the local Iowa business Backyard Trails, LLC, and the recent connector trails were recently added! I also have enjoyed riding Sugar Bottom more, and the new Aspen trail in Linn county is a work of art!

Favorite cycling event in Bike Iowa City

The September Farm Cycle Ride put on by The Bike Library is an amazing event! One can pick the Cherry Tomato route, the Kale Yeah route, or the Beet it up Route, depending on how many miles they want to ride. You ride your bike to several local farms to meet the local farmers, sample some amazing fresh food and beverages, pet some animals, listen to live music, and socialize and tour the farm. It rocks!

You're ready for some grub after a ride. Where will we find you?

I have to say one of my favorite post ride hangouts to grab a cold one after a ride would be Big Grove in Iowa City or Reunion in Coralville. Both of these bars have great food, beer, and friendly vibes!
