Bike Iowa City’s Bike Friendly Business program was designed to connect residents of Johnson County and cycling tourists to local restaurants, bars, coffee shops, breweries, and hotels that understand the importance of embracing our growing cycling culture.

The businesses below have demonstrated their commitment to the local cycling culture by:

  • Having staff that are aware of the basic needs of cyclists and can provide community members and cycling tourists with local information
  • Offering water bottle refills to cyclists, free of charge
  • Having bike racks or hooks available for cyclists to use
  • Having a bicycle repair kit, fix-it-station, or can refer guests to a local bike shop

We hope you’ll choose to support one of these Bike Friendly Businesses on your next Bike Iowa City adventure!

The League of American Bicyclists Bicycle Friendly Business Program is based on the belief that bikes are good for businesses, employees, and the community. BFBs are recognized for their efforts through an award system based on five essential elements to being bicycle friendly: Engineering, Education, Encouragement, Evaluation & Planning, and Equity & Inclusion. All BFB applicants receive feedback to help them become more bike-friendly, and BFB awardees must renew every 4 years to maintain a current designation. As of May 2022, Johnson County has 13 total communities/businesses recognized as Bicycle Friendly by the League of American Bicyclists.
